Charming
St Agnes Village Awaits

If you can tear yourself away from the peace and quiet, the charming village of St Agnes is just a stone’s throw away. Cosy pubs, welcoming eateries, and a picturesque cove invite you to explore.

St Agnes Beach, once a bustling harbour where schooners were built on the sand, is now a family-friendly haven. The village itself was once one of the richest tin mining communities in the world, watched over by the dramatic remnants of old mine stacks. This rich history has made St Agnes a central part of Cornwall’s Mining World Heritage Area.

Located just 400 metres from the beautiful Chapel Porth beach, within the parish of St Agnes, on the North Cornwall coast. Ideally positioned to explore everything Cornwall has to offer.

The Legend of Bolster

St Agnes owes its name to a legendary tale. Long ago, a fearsome giant named Bolster terrorised the villagers—until he fell hopelessly in love with a beautiful maiden named Agnes. To prove his devotion, she asked him to fill a hole in the rocks at Chapel Porth with his blood. What Bolster didn’t realise was that the hole led straight into the sea. The more blood he poured in, the more escaped, and it never filled. Bolster was tricked and perished on the cliffs, freeing the village from his reign of terror. Agnes became a local heroine, and the village took her name.

Even today, the sea sometimes runs red around St Agnes—said to be Bolster’s blood—and every May, the village celebrates his defeat with Bolster Day.
